No we do not. We accept any dog or cat into our salon regardless of age or breed. However, depending on the age of your pet, it is very important to discuss the risk factors that certain services can have on them. Grooming can be a very stressful process and the staff at Doggie Styles aims to do everything in our power to keep your pet comfortable and safe. With our many combined years of experience we are trained in knowing the signs of your pet becoming too stressed and will stop the grooming process at any time.
One-on-one grooming is only having one dog with the groomer at a time, not stacking many dogs into the salon at once. Having too many other dogs in the same space at the same time can cause stress on other animals. By operating this way the pet may take longer to groom, but we can ensure a pleasant visit with us - which is our top priority!
We operate as a One-On-One groomer so grooming times can take longer. We focus on what your pet needs to have a calm and happy experience so each and every time they come in the time can fluctuate depending on what your pet needs to look and feel their best. Minimum is one hour for a full groom and times will be discussed with the groomer at drop off. If for any reason the groomer feels the pet needs more time to have a proper groom, the time will be communicated to the owner via text or phone call.
No. It is very important for your pet to get to know the groomer and be comfortable in the salon without you. Like children, pets behave much better once the owner is gone and will relax shortly after drop off. We recommend handing the leash over to the groomer and quietly without saying or giving eye contact to the dog, walking out the door. Yes, I know we all want to say goodbye and comfort them before we leave, but we have to remember to use dog psychology on dogs and not people mentality.
No! Only under extreme circumstances should a dog with a double coat ever be shaved down. Having a double coated breed means they have a thick undercoat that actually helps regulate their temperature in the hot and cold seasons. By shaving their hair you risk the hair growing back very uneven or not growing back at all. Giving them regular grooming appointments can help with the shedding.
We base our appointments on a 4 to 6 week schedule. Most dogs who need a haircut will need a maintenance groom before their haircut to get all those hard to reach places that can become knotted or matted before their hair cut. If a cat needs to be shaved, it may take several months before their hair fully grows back. That doesn’t mean they can’t have a bath in between times as well. For some dogs, their coat grows back just as fast as our hair does!
No. We work as a one on one groomer, that means that the pet that is in our salon deserves all of our full undivided attention to provide a safe and comfortable envirnment. It is very important to trim your dog or cat’s nails regularly because it can slowly cause damage to the bones in their feet and also be very painful to walk around with long nails. Some may even curl and become embedded into the pads which can cause infections and be very painful to walk. Nail trims should be done every 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your pets nails grow. You can book a nail appointment online or call the salon.
Yes! Cats need to be groomed as regularly as dogs do. Just because the cat tries to bathe themselves doesn’t mean they are always able to get all the hard to reach places. Bathing can help with shedding too. Maintaining good health for your cat and keeping up with nail trims can reduce the wear and tear to your furniture as well.
As soon as you bring them home. Getting your puppy or kitten used to the grooming process at an early age can set them up for a lifetime of good habits and will make the process go more smoothly for your pet, the groomer, and the owner at home. You can discuss with your groomer good tips and tricks on how to start grooming your young new family member that are specific to the breed and coat type. We also offer grooming packages to help introduce your new pet to a wonderful life of grooming.
